Impeachment proceedings and legalism in pursuit of constitutional justice

The article examines the VP Duterte impeachment proceedings while raising broader questions about whether pursuit of justice through strict procedural adherence adequately serves constitutional accountability. The author argues that while due process protections are essential to prevent impeachment from becoming political vengeance, an over-legalistic approach may undermine the sui generis nature of impeachment as a constitutional mechanism for public accountability rather than criminal punishment.
