Typhoon Obet now in PAR, may eventually enhance southwest monsoon

Typhoon Obet (Saudel) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on August 24, 2026, as the country's 15th tropical cyclone for the year, though it will briefly pass through and exit within 12 hours without causing direct rainfall or wind warnings. However, the typhoon is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon after exiting PAR, which will bring significant rainfall from late August through early September across multiple provinces including Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro, with risks of flash floods and landslides during moderate to heavy rainfall.
